Lost or Stolen Car Keys
Losing or having your car keys stolen can be a stressful experience. We’re here to take that stress away and come to you, whether on the side of the road, at home or at work. Once there, our experienced locksmith can unlock the car if needed, and then cut and program a new transponder into your car’s immobiliser system directly through the car’s On Board Diagnostic Port or OBD. We can have you back on the road within an hour of arriving so you can carry on with your day.
Silverfern Locksmiths has some of the latest key programming technology available to produce keys for most makes and models including Holden, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Audi, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Jeep, Dodge, Renault, Skoda, Daihatsu, Chrysler, Daewoo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Range Rover, Lexus, Peugeot, Suzuki and Citroen.
In some cases new keys are not able to be programmed through the car’s OBD, and the immobiliser unit or ECU must be removed and keys programmed directly to the ECU circuit board. This is also something we specialise in, and take a lot of pride in the amount of care, technical ability and technology required to perform this task, as mistakes can be costly. There is no hard and fast rule as to which vehicles require this procedure, so either give our friendly team a call, or send us an e-mail and we will be happy to help you.
What is a VIN Number?
When quoting to replace your keys, we will require the Make, Model and Year of the vehicle for accurate pricing. In most cases this is enough, but in some instances we will also need your car’s VIN or Vehicle Identification Number. This is unique to your car and is 17 characters long, and can be found on service or insurance papers, registration papers and also on the rear or side wall of the car’s engine bay, and sometimes on the driver or passenger side door frame on newer vehicles. It is not required in all instances, but can make things easier especially concerning remote keys.
Spare Keys
As we are a mobile locksmith service only, we can come out and program spare keys to your car, but this is a premium service as there is a call out charge involved. If it is not urgent simply fill in our lost/spare keys form and we will get back to you with an accurate quote.
Remote keys & Aftermarket Keys
Making a new set of transponder keys can be a very expensive exercise. Most cars though are able to accept aftermarket non-remote keys which can reduce the cost quite considerably. As there is no remote, the car is opened by simply inserting the key in to the door lock and opening it “the old fashioned way”.
We can also cut and supply genuine dealer remote keys and indeed some vehicles will only accept genuine remote keys. The price range for these keys is huge so for a prompt and accurate quote please have your VIN number handy.
